NEW RESOURCE CENTRE: the Ninfield Local History Group has been awarded £4,000 by Wealden District Council to help us make our archive more accessible to the public and to help us with our key aim of developing interest in local history in the community. The centre will be based in the upper floor of the new pavilion but we can also welcome visitors with limited mobility on the ground floor if needed.
We are planning on an Opening Day event on Monday 1st May (Bank Holiday Monday) at 2pm. On that day there will be a small exhibition area and a chance to enjoy some refreshments while looking at some of the materials we have collected over the last few years. We plan to open once a week as a regular opportunity for people to drop in (more details to follow). There will be a work space where people will be able to look through the archives, print photographs, do local history research and even go online to look at family history websites and other history sites.
We would welcome volunteers to help with manning the centre so please let us know if you can help either regularly or just occasionally.

Subscriptions are due: It’s that time of year again and the annual subscription of £10 is payable. Once again we have not increased the subscription and believe it gives members very good value. Members pay just £1 for admission to meetings as opposed to £3 for non-members. Having the subscription enables us to plan our program of speakers and to invest in projects and activities like the new Resource Centre and our range of publications. You can send payment by post. (cheques made payable to the “Ninfield Local History Group”) or just remember to pay at the next meeting.
There was sad news that Vernon Cornford has passed away. Vernon was an enthusiastic History Group supporter and helped us with the School Project on several occasions, thrilling the children with his memories of growing up in wartime Ninfield. Going about on his scooter with his dog he was part of village life. He will be fondly remembered.
